It will cost $100.00 above and beyond the regular entry fee to enter the Quick 8. For those 8 cars entered, if you win one round, you win $100.00 (which is basically your entry fee back), we will be splitting up $3000.00 in the Quick 8 field. 1st place will walk away with $1350.00!!!!! We will also be discussing at the driver’s meeting on Monday if we want to run a Standard tree or 4/10th or 5/10th Pro tree for the Quick 8 class. We will also award $200.00 for the Top Qualifier for Quick 8.

We are looking for Mother Nature to work with us this weekend, we have some special cars coming from far away, A barbeque with a great band, & big crowds expected. So please pass the word, let’s make this a success as it has been over the years.

Mother Nature 3 Terrace Drags 0

Monday, July 21st, 2008

The attempt to try and save the second race date of the season by holding a rain out day last Sunday was thwarted again by Mother Nature for a second weekend in a row. Rain and a heavy overcast in Terrace last Sunday disappointed organizers, volunteers and drag racers as they filed out of the Terrace Airport. Not all is lost however as August is looming with Three race dates.

The month will start with ‘Hot August Nights’ August 3rd and 4th . This race is part of the ‘Terrace River Boat Day’s’ celebration. This event also has a parade, Car Show on Saturday in the arena and racing Sunday and Monday.

The 12th Annual Houston Drags follows on 15th to 17th at the Houston Airport.

This leaves the Season Ender race in Terrace August 30th and 31st .

Rain

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Rain is great for the tree’s and plants, but it is not conducive to drag racing. There are no magic rain slicks. If it rains – you don’t race, period.

This was the situation last weekend at the Terrace Drags. Saturday’s race was canceled early on in the day, after a deluge early in the morning left the track wet. With rain showers predicted all day and no sun or heat to dry up the wet pavement, the call was made and the wait begins.

Racers and their families looked for other forms of entertainment and distractions, as it showered all day. Quite a few ‘sucker holes’ appeared, causing much discussion late in the afternoon.

At one point, there was even talk of opening for ‘Time only’s’. This is where you run to get time slips only. These words were no sooner were spoken, than the skies opened up, as we were told from above, what the real answer was.

During the early morning, high winds combined with rain bouncing off of the trailers and motor homes. The winds stayed but the rain stopped and when we woke, the mountains could be seen again.

The wind, however, remained a problem, as crosswinds blew cones across the track and cars blew around at the top end of the 1/8 mile course. After time trials were held for about two hours a slight drizzle started to fall . After a drivers meeting was held, it was decided it wasn’t safe to race, so we finally gave in to the weather gods.

The Terrace/Kitimat Airport has agreed to let the track and equipment remain up and there will be racing this Sunday July 13. Racing will begin at 10 am with time trials and follow with ‘King of the YXT’ and “Gamblers’.

Threes coming at you

Gord Hidber brought his 1955 Chevy back to where it came from July 1st and took his 3rd straight ‘Peoples Choice’ award at the Kitimat July 1st Show & Shine. Previous ‘People’s Choice’ awards were presented to Hidber in Prince Rupert at the Seafest Show & Shine and the Fathers Day Show& Shine in Terrace.

The ‘Peoples Choice’ is the hardest Award to garner, as it is voted by the public.

Hidber took home Three First place awards including ‘Best 50′s’ and ‘Participants’.

Another Rupert resident who participated in the Threefest was Sandy Menzies. Menzies brought his 1968 Camero and garnered a First in ‘Best 60′s, a Second in ‘Peoples Choice’ and a Second in ‘Participants’.

Drag Racing is the main theme this weekend, as the Second of four dates this year, runs at the Terrace/Kitimat Airport. If the Season Opener in May was any indication we should be treated to a great weekend of racing.

‘King of the YXT’ and ‘Gamblers’ will be run Saturday and Sunday will have regular ‘Bracket Classes’.

Prince Rupert racer Kham Shantz leads the year long points series in ‘Super Pro’ Class with 85 points and Terry Frizzell is tied for 7th place with four other racers at 31 points.
