Nitro Burning Top Fuel fun

Friday, August 28th, 2009

JEFF KNOWLES

Ed Evans

It’s here this weekend! The Hottest, fastest, biggest thrill on the track, ‘Nitro Burning, ‘Top Fuel Harley’. This class is the top dog in bike drag racing.

New this year as a exhibition class in the NHRA. This is one of the most popular classes in bike drag racing.

‘Bike Wars’ is this weekend at the Terrace regional airport. Sponsored by Harley-Davidson of Smithers, it will be a bike feature event with special races for bikes. If you have a bike bring it up and try your skills on the 1/8 mile track.

There will be lots to see and sales reps will be on hand at the track. “We hope everybody will bring their bikes and race, it doesn’t just have to be a Harley”. Said a company spokesperson.

Steve from Harley-Davidson of Smithers will be giving a great deal on new tire purchases for the weekend, they will also have a tent set up for other purchases. So don’t be afraid to bring out the bike and burn that tire off.

To show what a bike can do Harley-Davidson of Smithers has sponsored a ‘Top Fuel Harley’ to make passes on the weekend.

Top Fuel(TF) is a purpose built, Nitromethane burning, injected or supercharged v twin dragsters up to 200 cubic inches in size.

Jeff Knowles, a top fuel Harley racer in the CMDRA’s ‘Screamin’ Eagle Top Fuel Series’ will make passes down the track on the weekend. Billed as 6 second, 200 mile an hour racing, the top fuel Nitro Harley will bring lots of noise, smoke and fast runs.

This race is not just for bikes though. This is a regular race weekend for Cars, Trucks, Bikes, Sleds and ATV’s, with the focus on Bikes. Regular classes will be run on Saturday and Sunday, so bring your cars out and make some runs on the last scheduled race in the Northwest in 2009.

This weekend schedule is as follows:

_Saturday_

Points Series classes

Quick 8 qualifying

_Sunday_

King of the YXT

Gambler

Quick 8 / Possible 2 classes

Staging Lanes will be open for time trials at 9:15am. At 1:15 the first round of “Brackets” or “King of the YXT” eliminations will start.
